On Monday 16 May, 2022 the Municipal Government of Grenoble, France voted to remove the restrictions on full-bodied swimsuits in local swimming pools. This vote was in part sparked by the long and tireless struggle by Citoyenne Alliance who ran a creative, resilient and imaginative campaign not helped by the attempts to reduce the debate to what has been termed the ‘burkini question.’ While there are countless well-rehearsed theoretical arguments about this decision, seeing the joy on the faces of those who have been campaigning for years clearly demonstrates that this was the correct decision. Citoyenne Alliance is braced for the inevitable backlash that will ensue (see link below), but the strength and determination of the group will prevail. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/may/18/france-to-challenge-grenobles-move-to-allow-burkini-in-public-pools
